Car Crash

Today I woke up and my owners brought me to the car. They put me in the car. I got in and sat down in the back trunk. They all of a sudden OMG! OMG! OMG! I see a butterfly. It was flying outside of the car. I tried to catch it but I kept hitting something that was clear and I couldn't see it. I think my owner refers to it as a window. Then the butterfly flew away. Then all of a sudden we started to move. I kinda fell over when we first moved. Then all of a sudden we were on this long strip of road. We were going really fast. All of a sudden BAMB!!! I was like OMG! OMG! OMG! I didn't know what happened. I was scared. Then my owner opened the trunk to see if i was ok. Once they opened the trunk I jumped on them and barked! Then I hear this siren and I start to bark! bark! bark! What is that? I was thinking....OMG! OMG! OMG! There is a car coming down so fast! I was surprised at how fast it was going. The people came out of the fast car and they tried to help us....luckily nobody was hurt.

Our Racist, Sexist Selves- questions

1. I think that that the author thought that the University of Chicago test revealed him as racist because he shot the "black" people more then the "white" people. Personally I don't think that this test means anything because its not the test to decided wether your racist or not.
2. No because the test surprised people on the score that they got. I think this because I was also surprised with my score and how I did. So others will probably be more surprised also.
3. The author probably thinks that sexism is harder to fight than racism because he thinks that women are just not strong enough as men. The research that suggest this is that "subjects who were asked to think of a strong woman then showed less implicit bias about men and women."
4. Basically the quote is saying that women are just mean, evil, and tough but people are think that women are soft, warm, and cuddly.
5. The real problem women face according to the author is "that women have trouble being perceived as both nice and competent." Well I think that it all depends on who that women is because it depends on the person.
6. This problem can be confronted according to the author by "the impact of this presidential contest won’t be measured just in national policies, but also in progress in the deepest recesses of our own minds." I think that this would be different and I just think that people are equal and just need to be far and just stop the racism.

Reflection- reaction

Well what I think about the movie so far is that it is quite an interesting movie. I enjoy watching this movie. What I like about this movie is that it shows what has happened over the years ago. I don't like how in this movie there is a lot of discrimination going on. For example how they move into a neighborhood filled with "white" people and only "white" people, and how the person who is responsible for the community goes to them and basically says that they cant move into that house in that neighborhood. That is just so wrong. It just isn't right. People shouldn't do those kinds of things because everyone should be equal and have far rights.

A Raisin in the Sun

Well my first impressions about race in this country and in this school is that in the country its worse then in this school. I think that race in this country is bad because they just discriminate others and the way they look and how they act. I just think that it isn't right because people shouldn't do that because it make others feel bad and it is just plain WRONG! Well back in the days before I was born I think that there was a lot of discrimination going on just by the color of your skin. Back then there was a lot of discrimination because they would discriminate by skin color and also they had different water fountains. The "black" and "white" water fountains. In America now I don't think that there is as much discriminating going on then back then. Well my experience has been perfect because well I eat lunch with a bunch of different varieties of people and they are all my friends no matter what they look like or any of that because that doesn't matter to me its the friendship not on how someone looks. I think that the future will be even better then now because even though there is little discrimination going on now, in the future there probably won't be any discrimination going on.

DSP Reflection

I thought that the digital story telling projects were all very good and fun to create. The top three movies that I enjoyed was the Little ninja boy, Gamble, and the Lego movie. Those are the tree top digital story telling movies that I personally enjoyed. The little ninja boy movie was interesting on how they did all those moves with the sticks and movements in that movie. The Gamble movie was really interesting but I thought that it was the funniest movie that was shown. Also the Lego movie was very well made and created.

I really enjoyed doing this project all though it was a hard project to create, but it was fun!

Story Proposal

This story is basically about this girl named Scarlet who has two best friends. There names are Jada and Valerie. Scarlet, Jada, and Valerie have known each other since pre-k. They all grew up together. Now they got to Oklahoma High School in Oklahoma. Scarlet is a very popular/mean person. Jada is a very shy person. Valerie is a goody-goody. Even though these girls have very different personalities they are still very close and trustful friends. All these girls want to tryout for cheer. They have wanted this since they were little. Scarlet is "two faced" because she is nice when she wants to be and she can be mean when she wants to be.

My opinion about this story is about these girls socially destroying each other. Scarlet manages to socially destroy Jada and Valerie because she is actually the mean one and she is a professional at socially destroying people. But in the end Jada and Valerie win because the power doesn't beat the good thing in life. So therefore, in the end Jada and Valerie become the cheerleaders they always wanted to be. Scarlet just continues to live life as she was before.

Exposition: Scarlet, Jada, Valerie
Set-Up: popularity, shyness, and goody-goody
Crisis/Climax: Cheer Team, socially destroying others, and becoming more social with others
Resolution/Twist: Jada and Valerie win because the power doesn't overcome the good

Quotes on Power

“Where love rules, there is no will to power; and where power predominates, there love is lacking. The one is the shadow of the other.”

Well I would have to agree with this quote. I agree with this quote because it is very true that one person’s shadow represents the other person. For example is like the saying when they say, “you're walking in each others foot steps.” Another example is that let's say you are at school and there are tones of cliques and there is popular, nerdy, and normal. Well you are going to the cafeteria to eat lunch and they all have their own tables. So you decide to sit at the popular table, they just give you this disgusting glare and then they say “what are you doing” and that is your signal to get up and move. That is their power!
What I think this quote is trying to say is that when love rules there is no power but when power rules there is no love. So when someone is in love with someone his or her love is stronger then the power that isn't there between them, nobody has more power than the other. When there is power then they have no love in their life.
Therefore, I strongly agree with this quote because it really describes life, everything that is happening around you, and all the different power in your life. People with power have no love in their lives. People with love have no power in their life. If you have an even amount of power and love in your life then it would probably balance out your life and that would be good. It would be good because then you would be complete and have a fair life unlike other people in the world.

Guilty #2-ambition

That next day I took the metro bus to my friend’s house. I finally got to my friends house, we decided to go to 7-11 and so my friend needed some money. I already had my own money but my friend needed some. So she asked her mom if she could have some money but her mom said no. So my friend snuck in to her mom’s room and took some money out of her purse. My friend knows that she probably shouldn’t have done that but she did it anyway cause she is kind of spoiled and gets what she wants. So anyway we got to 7-11 and we bought some food. Then we went back to her house and when we got there her mom was so mad. So I had to go right home and she was in a lot of trouble. She really shouldn’t have taken any money out of her mom’s purse, but she did and now she has to pay the consequences.

Laws Of Power

Law 2: Never put too Much Trust in Friends, Learn how to use Enemies

Well for this law it is possible that it will work. This law should work because if you never trust friends that much then you will make enemies very fast. If you don’t trust you friends then they will become your enemy and then you will have no friends. Your friends could betray you very quickly if you don’t trust them. What this law is trying to say is that if you have a friend but then you don’t trust them, then they will become your enemy and then you will have no friends. So if you have an enemy as a friend that enemy will be more loyal because that enemy needs to prove more that an actual friend does. You will probably be more afraid of your friends than your enemies. “If you have no enemies, find a way to make them.” I think what this is trying to say is that if you have no friends then make some so then they can become your enemies or if you have no enemies then make some enemies so that you can learn how to use those enemies.

Guilty

One day I was just minding my own business, walking down the street to go to the grocery store. While I was walking down to the grocery store I saw this homeless man who needed some money. He was standing on the corner of the street. He was asking people who were driving by if he could have some money. So I decided to give him some money cause well he looked like he needed it more than me. I finally made it to the grocery store and I was looking around in the store trying to find the different things on the grocery list that mom gave me, just little tiny things like some pieces of chocolate and a small pack of gum. So I was looking around and I finally found the little things on the list. So I was waiting in line to check out and when I was waiting in line I realized that I didn’t have any money on me. I didn’t have any money because I had given all of it to the homeless man on the corner of the street. So I pretended that I had forgot something on the list so I got out of line. Then I walked around for a little bit so nobody would be suspicious. I stuck the gum and pieces of chocolate into my pocket. Then I decided to run for it so I walked out the store doors and then started running. I got away without anyone catching me in the act of crime. That same day when I got home I didn’t tell anyone that I had stolen anything, but deep down inside I knew it was wrong and I felt really guilty.

3. It will not be of favor to him because they will always be enemies and Banquo knows that Macbeth killed Duncan.
4. Macbeth thinks that he sees a dagger because well Macbeth is going crazy and he is preparing for a murder.
5. The bell probably rung because the deed was done, the murder was done.

Scene 2:
1. Lady Macbeth doesn't commit the murder because she says that the king resembles her father.
2. Macbeth has a fear of Banquo.
3. Macbeth did not tell Lady Macbeth about the murder and he probably should have so that they are both on the same page.
4. Lady Macbeth looks at this as no big deal and Macbeth is totally shocked and scared.

Scene 3:

2. Well Macduff and Lennox found that Macbeth is planning on killing Banquo.

Macbeth-Act 2 Response

Macbeth should just stay low and not say anything about him killing Duncan. Even though he is probably going to get caught anyway and die he should still not say anything cause that would ruin Lady Macbeth's plan for killing the king. But if Macbeth wanted to turn himself in and die then he should do that, but he probably doesn't want to do that. Macbeth might be able to get away with killing the king. Lady Macbeth is definitely going to get away with killing the king. Macbeth might not be able to handle this huge weight on his shoulders. He might not be able to handle it because he was "paralyzed with horror."

Shakespeare- Response

Well we probably teach Macbeth and Shakespeare so we can learn the different types of writing and language in all these different books. It is good that we teach Macbeth and Shakespeare even though we don’t really understand what they are saying we can still get an idea of how they wrote and talked back then. One experience with Shakespeare was last year when I had to act out a little part in one of the Shakespeare books. Another Shakespeare experience was when we were reading one of the books and then we just had to discuss about the things we read in the book. The acting that we had to do was ok because I don’t really like acting in front of people because I get nervous, but it was ok. The reading and discussing was probably better for me because I got to read the book and discuss about what I read and what I thought about the Shakespeare book. Therefore, by reading Shakespeare and Macbeth it is a good way for us to learn all the different writing and language that was used back in the day.

Life of Pi Response

Yes this novel will be good to read as a whole class because it demonstrates survival and life. One reason that this book will be good for the whole class is that there are a lot of metaphors in this book. The second reason that this book will be good for the whole class is that Pi believes in three different religions and he still does believe in those religions. The last reason that this book will be good for the whole class is that this book gets very interesting how Pi is stuck on a life boat with this vicious and dangerous tiger. I think that all college and high school students will enjoy this book no matter what because it is always exciting and thrilling through the whole book. Some quotes from the book are:
"Jesus, Mary, Muhammad and Vishnu!"
"So long as no excessive water is lost through perspiration, the body can survive up to fourteen days without water. If you feel thirsty, suck a button."
"Just beyond the ticket booth Father had had painted on a wall in bright red letters the question: DO YOU KNOW WHICH IS THE MOST DANGEROUS ANIMAL IN THE ZOO? An arrow pointed to a small curtain. There were so many eager, curious hands that pulled at the curtain that we had to replace it regularly. Behind it was a mirror.
These quotes are about religion, survival, and how humans are the most dangerous animals.

The Dumbing Of America-questions

1. The author is trying to say that this country is heading to the wrong direction. A quote from the author is "The mind of this country, taught to aim at low objects, eats upon itself."
2. The evidence that the author gives is that the U.S. is getting out of hand and the U.S. has been going downward for several decades. Baby Einstein proves that we are getting dumber by mentioning that certain programs or things that might be affecting our education and that is why so many people are dropping out.
3. Jacobs believes that lack of education caused dumbness because of people being lazy.
4. What the author means by anti-intellectualism is that people are dumb and lazy. Anti-intellectualism is when people aren't putting enough effort into what they are doing. Playing video games instead of reading a book might cause laziness.
5. The "erosion of general knowledge" is when certain things are affecting their knowledge which is making them dumber.
6. Basically what the 2nd to last paragraph is saying is that the lack of knowledge is make the people dumber by not knowing important information.
7. She is possibly right because personally my family is a little lazy. We watch TV and we are always on the computer but we aren't loosing our intelligence.

WASL-questions

1. I think that they want you to take the WASL because they would like for you to become better in writing, also as a sophomore we have to pass the WASL, and to test how we do in school.
2. The good aspects of the WASL is that we get to come to school later and classes are shorter. The not-so-good aspects of the WASL is that we have to pass the WASL and if you don't pass then you will have to take the test again as a Junior.
3. The goals of the WASL will not be met without taking the WASL test.

"Mind Over Muscle"-questions

1. Brooks says that girls do better in school because woman are better students than men, girls are more attentive, girls have higher grades in every subject, and girls are less likely to be diagnosed with a learning disability.
2. I would say yes girls are better equipped for the future because girls are more organized and they are doing better in school than boys are.
3. Brooks thinks that this means that in the future there will be far more female college graduates than there will be male graduates.
4. I think what Brooks means by that quote is that in 30 years everyone will be old-fashioned and it will be very different in the future from how it is now in our time.
5. Some solutions that Brooks offers is that they should have an honest discussion about any differences between the males and the females, they should figure out why poor girls who move to middle-class schools do better but then poor boys who move there don't to well at all, and they should absorb every book at the bookstore because women like to read totally different things then men. I think that some of these plans might be able to work but maybe not all of them.

Vertiual Job Interview-Questions

1. Second Life is a web-based virtual world on the internet. Where you could possibly do a job interview with a company.
2. Mr. Gould is dressed in a superman costume. He was dressed like that because it was a virtual world you could dress the way you want and it wouldn't matter.
3. Some positives to having an interview in Second Life is that you would probably be more relaxed and more calm than in a face-to-face interview.
4. Some distractions to having an interview in Second Life is that maybe the way the avatar is dressed would be distracting or maybe having to type everything that you would say in that interview instead of just saying what you would say.
5. Well job hunting might change by having the applications online instead of on paper. Also there might be more virtual worlds for interviews like in this article.

Topics for persuasive essay

1. Adoption
2. Education
3. School Violence

Adoption might be a good topic to write about because adoption is an act of kindness and I think that acts of kindness are good for people and everyone in the world. It is good because it shows people how they are able to help others in time of need.

Education might be a good topic to write about because you need education to get into colleges and just to get anywhere in the world. Education is important because when you are in school you learn about new things around you and what is going on in the world. So education is important because it helps you through your life and you are always learning new things.

School Violence might also be another good topic to write about because I am not a fan of violence and I really think that it shows immaturity. You shouldn't be involved in school violence because then you might get hurt or the other victim might get hurt and that might just lead to their friends coming to hurt you or your friends going to hurt them. So school violence is not good and you shouldn't be involved with it.

Driving to the Funeral-questions

1. Some logical statistics in this reading is that they give proof that younger people who drive get in more accidents. Here is a quotes "The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has found that neophyte drivers of 17 have about a third as many accidents as their counterparts only a year younger." Here is another quote "any reasonable person would respond that a 13-year-old is too young. But statistics suggest that that’s true of 16-year-olds as well." Some facts that she uses in the reading is "in Massachusetts alone, one third of 16-year-old drivers have been involved in serious accidents."
2. A rhetorical question that she used in the reading is "If someone told you that there was one behavior most likely to lead to the premature death of your kid, wouldn’t you do something about that?" An emotion that she uses in this reading is "It’s become a sad rite of passage in many American communities, the services held for teenagers killed in auto accidents before they’ve even scored a tassel to hang from the rearview mirror."
3. Credibility in this reading is that she says an opinion and then she backs it up with facts and statistics. How she might deal with threat to credibility is she just doesn't deal with it.
4. I thought that she wasn't that persuasive because she was to straight forward and i really don't think that she did a good job. I thought that if she talked to teenagers then it might have been better.

Editorial - A pause on the Tracks

In this article I found some logical, emotional, and credibility. For logical I found statistics and deductive reasoning. Some of those statistics is that the average streetcar is operating every 15 minutes. The Seattle Department of Transportation is hoping to buy more streetcars by July 15th. These streetcars cost more than buses but streetcars last two and a half years longer. Streetcars cost $3 million and buses cost $800,000. For deductive reasoning I found that the more streetcars then the fewer buses. For emotional I found a rhetorical question that said let’s see if enough people ride the streetcar, and if its value is better than a bus? For credibility I found I found expert knowledge. That expert knowledge is that if you use the repair barn for 10 cars instead of three the cost will drop and also that streetcars should be a success by this summer. Another expert knowledge is that streetcar expansion is better than bus expansion because it is less politically connected. I found out that logical is basically just causes and effects, statements, and statistics. Emotional is negative emotion, positive emotions, metaphors, and rhetorical question. Also credibility is basically something the article says and then gives examples of why you should keep reading.
